A mild winters day
The sun shining warmth
The ice buried
Under a fresh fall of snow
Pristine untouched
Waiting
We lace up our skates
Skating designs
Circles
Waving lines
Through this snow
The snow cushioning
Our wobbly attempts at smoothness
We tumble and fall
We laugh
Enjoying our play
Most of the time I sit inside
Watching the flakes fall
Adding to the piles
Of already fallen snow
As a child I loved winter
Building forts, snowmen
Throwing snowballs
From within the safe shelter
Of these snowy walls
We'd stay outside
Till not one more breath of cold
Could be drawn in
Feet numb
Mitts wet
Cheeks and fingers stinging
We'd give up
Go inside
Let the warm
Heat us up again
Hands wrapped around hot chocolate
Content
Over the years
These fun times forgotten
Spending more time
Running to escape the cold
Shivering
Moaning and groaning
Wishing for summer
Beaches, camping, hiking
Smiling and warm
But today
As I feel the suns warmth
On this milder winter day
I relive my childhood
Skating circles and laughing
Plowing through the snow
On wobbly skates
Watching you
Strive to already be
A great hockey star
Your young
Winter so much fun
For this moment in time
I love winter still too
Making these designs
Waving lines
Circles
